Study the calling of the disciples. They were fishers, doing the family trade. Why were they working in the family trade? Because they didn't make the cut to study under a rabbi. In Jewish culture, every young boy studied the scriptures, and over the years, only the best of the best went on to study under a rabbi—the rest went about the work of the family trade.
That's why it's so revolutionary when Jesus calls these fishermen to be disciples. Jesus called the ones who were the drop outs, the disqualified. Yet they were uniquely qualified to be on the mission with The Rabbi. God chose to change the world through the disqualified.
